TUPYPRES Technical Data and Installation Guide
TUPYPRES fittings are made of malleable cast iron and are installed on steel and polyethylene pipe with no threading, no welding and no flame. They are mechanical compression joints: no press machine and no special tool is needed — the pipe goes into the fitting and the nut is tightened with an ordinary wrench. Sealing is done by a ring set (rubber sealing ring, compression ring and locking ring) already assembled inside the fitting. Working pressure and temperature by fluid and pipe type
The maximum working pressure and temperature of TUPYPRES depends on the fluid and the pipe material. The table below gives the permitted values for steel pipe, PEX grade polyethylene pipe and PE100 grade polyethylene pipe.

For conditions outside this range, a different sealing ring rubber can be specified by the design engineers; supply conditions are agreed in consultation with TUPY.
Compatible pipes and permitted outside diameters
TUPYPRES compatibility is defined by the outside diameter of the pipe, not simply by its nominal size. Before ordering, measure the outside diameter of the pipe on site and check it against the table below.

Pipe standards that can be used:
Steel pipe: ABNT NBR 5580 (light, medium and heavy class) and ABNT NBR 5590 (normal, reinforced and double-reinforced class).
Other reference standards: EN 10255, DIN 2441 and DIN 2440, ASTM A53 and ASTM A106 (class M, class A/B, SCH 40).
Polyethylene pipe: ABNT NBR 14462 for PEAD or PE grade, from 20 to 63 mm.
ABNT NBR 5590 pipe in 2½ inch diameter is not recommended for TUPYPRES fittings.

How to install TUPYPRES fittings
Cut the pipe to length, square to its axis. The pipe must fall within the outside diameter range in the table above.
Slacken the nut on the fitting without removing it; there is no need to take it right off.
Mark the insertion depth on the pipe from the table below and push the pipe into the fitting up to the mark. Do the same for sockets and any other fitting with an internal shoulder.
Tighten the nut by hand, as many turns as it will go.
Tighten the nut with an ordinary wrench up to the torque and number of turns in the tables below. No press machine or special tool is required.
Check the installation; the fitting must be fully seated on the pipe.
Finally, carry out a leak test at 1.5 times the maximum working pressure for 10 minutes.
The rings inside the fitting are pre-assembled in the correct position and order. Any change to that arrangement puts the integrity of the installation at risk.

The number of turns is the total of hand-tightening and wrench tightening. Once installed, these fittings allow about 6° of angular adjustment.
Line repair and sealing ring replacement
One practical advantage of TUPYPRES is that a line can be repaired locally without cutting and welding. If a length of pipe is damaged, only that piece is cut out and replaced with a TUPYPRES socket, and the line is back in service.
Take the nut and rings off the fitting and inspect the internal components.
Replace the rubber sealing ring with a new one of the same size; the order and orientation of the rings must stay exactly as they were.
Put the rings back in place, insert the pipe to the specified depth and tighten the nut to the torque table.
After assembly, carry out the leak test again.
